PINK BAGEL (installation)
Feb 2023
16x 16 x 34 inches(x3)
Wood, 3d printing, mirror, bagel

This is the very first project where I incorporated 3D printing techniques. Rather than merely a 'technique,' I consider 3D printing more as a concept throughout the work, as I am continually fascinated by the technology that shapes our daily lives. I pondered the workings of 3D printing and how this technique functions for human beings. Obviously, it serves as a perfect physical replica of a digital object. The presentation of my work manipulates our established consciousness by subverting the way people perceive objects through weight, vision, and texture. I intend to stimulate viewers' reflection on the relationship between a physical object and its digital version; thereby implying that the digital realm is significantly encroaching on our physical lives, leaving less and less time for purely physical experiences.

I initially became interested in bagels because I was attracted to the symmetrical shape of the bagel cut in half. The symmetrical form intensifies the contrast between the textures on each side of the bagel (left side with honey and butter, right side with strawberry jam). I did a series of print experiences to explore the different presentations.
